ILIAD
National Theatre Wales / Ffwrnes
ILIAD is an epic theatrical staging of Christopher Logue's War Music, directed by Mike Pearson and Mike Brookes, immersing the audience in a vast, 360-degree cinematic landscape.
“...a theatre machine – a combination of sound, video, live action, setting.”
This multimedia retelling of the final weeks of the Trojan War is told by a cast including Melanie Walters (Gavin and Stacey), Richard Lynch (Coriolan/us, Pobol y Cwm) and Daniel Hawksford (Crouch, Touch, Pause, Engage & Praxis Makes Perfect), along with a troupe of interfering teenage gods. The production was featured by The Guardian as one of the hottest plays of autumn 2015.

“Epic storytelling meets box-set theatre.”
Music reviews:
“The unfussy set, unobtrusive visuals and cinematic surround-sound combine to create a world that feels, at times, like you are inside an audiobook” (The Arts Desk)
General reviews:
“This is a show that will be big in every way – from the cast and design to a running time of eight hours, split into four shows, that can be seen individually or in two marathon performances either all day or overnight” (The Guardian)
“ ***** Iliad is certainly the theatrical event of the year. It may be the theatrical event of the decade” (The Guardian)
“On its own terms of rendering Logue’s Homer as theatrical vision, Iliad is a triumph” (The Arts Desk)
